I Got Tired of Clicking Ads, So I Built a Tool

How a frustrating game download became FitGirl Turbo Link Extractor.

I wanted to download a game. Somehow, that meant spending my time clicking through ads just to get to the actual download links.

If you’ve done this before, you probably know the routine. Open a link, get through the interruptions, find what you came for, then repeat the process for the next file.

I could put up with it for a few parts. But when a game had plenty of them, the whole thing became difficult to do reliably. I had to keep track of where I was, which links I’d collected, and what was still missing. Every additional part meant going through the same process again.

By the time I had the links ready, I’d already spent more attention on the download than I wanted to.

Torrents were an option, but they were too slow for me. Going back to direct downloads meant returning to all that clicking. Neither approach was giving me the experience I wanted, so I started thinking about a different way to handle it.

The part that bothered me most was how repetitive it all was. I already had a page containing the links. I already had a download manager that could handle the files. Getting from one to the other was the chore.

That was the part I wanted to automate.

It started with FuckingFast

At first, I only wanted to make grabbing FuckingFast links easier.

I still had to feed the tool multiple paste links containing the FuckingFast URLs so it could resolve the direct download links. That was already an improvement over opening every file link manually, but collecting and pasting those sources was still part of the job.

Once I had that working, I kept seeing ways to simplify it further. I expanded support to other hosts, then pushed the idea a step further: let the tool start from the main FitGirl game page itself.

Now I could copy one page link, paste it in, choose a supported mirror, and let it work through the links for me.

One page link for a game split across all those parts. How crazy is that?

Once those links were ready, I could put them into my downloader, start the queue, and go about my day.

That’s the workflow behind FitGirl Turbo Link Extractor.

You can give it a FitGirl repack page, a supported paste, or supported host links. It resolves the links in the background and produces a text file you can import into your download manager. It can also copy the completed links to your clipboard when available.

For a game split into multiple parts, that means I can hand over the source and let the tool work through the links together. I don’t have to babysit each one in the browser.

That was the experience I was after: paste a link, let it do its thing, then get on with the download.

Making it useful beyond one download

The tool supports FileKeeper and FuckingFast mirrors, with output you can use in IDM, JDownloader 2, or Free Download Manager. You can also choose language files and leave out optional bonus content.

There is some setup on the first run. You need Python installed, and the launcher installs missing dependencies and downloads a browser runtime if needed. When processing a page, you may also need to choose a mirror and your preferences. After that, it takes over the repetitive link collection.

Host support has limits. DataNodes is currently unsupported, so the direct-link workflow depends on a supported mirror being available. The extractor prepares the links; your download manager handles the game files.

I also want to credit Novandi Ramadhan for the original base project and inspiration. I built on that foundation and overhauled it around the workflow I wanted to use.

AI helped me take the idea further

AI was a solid help throughout this process. It helped me turn a frustrating task into something I could automate, then keep improving it as I saw what else was possible.

I started out wanting an easier way to grab links from one host. As that became easier, I could think about the next bit of friction: the other hosts, the multiple paste links, and eventually the page where the whole process began.

That’s what makes AI useful to me. You can bring it an everyday annoyance, work through an idea, and build something that takes a little stress out of your life. The task doesn’t have to be impressive to anyone else. If it’s something you keep doing, making it easier can be worth the effort.

What I like about this project is how ordinary the starting point was. I wanted to download something, kept running into the same friction, and decided to work on it.

It’s easy to dismiss a repetitive task because each individual step is small. A few clicks here, another link there. But when you have to repeat those steps across a long list of files, you feel the cost.

Getting that time and attention back was enough reason for me to build this.

If you’ve had the same frustration, check out FitGirl Turbo Link Extractor on GitHub. The README has the setup instructions and supported sources.

If it helps you, give the repository a star. And share it with a friend who could use it too.

I built it because I was tired of doing the clicking. Hopefully, it saves you some of it as well.
